Adding Flair to Drum Loops Ever wondered how to get that little bit of flittering flair or Juno Reactor-style speed into your drums? It's easier than you think, and all you need is the Drums module.
Load your samples up as you normally would, work out the basic drum loops you need for your track, and then choose a bank (bank H is usually an easy spot to do this, since it's nice and out of the way) to copy/paste some of the basic loops into. Once you've pasted a few of your basic loops into your new bank, choose the drum sound (note that this also works EXTREMELY well with synth stabs and even short vocal phrases) to tinker with, right click, and choose "Track Properties". Set the "Cut Track #" to whatever track # you're editing. Now, open up the edit window. Select "CFG" and set the step resolution to 32 or even 64. Now simply toy around with adding drum rolls and see what kind of new sounds you can get! When you mix fast panning or volume swells (via the pattern event editor), you can get even deeper effects that can do wonders to fill out your track. Using these effects on synth stabs can allow you to obtain the Juno Reactor style "flitter" they're so well known for, and using it on vocal phrases can bring a taste of Nine Inch Nails's style. The more you experiment, the more you'll find, and the more professional and full your tracks will sound! -- Jacob Talkington, 2001-10-19
